Why Volunteer?

Volunteering in any capacity is a great way to network with other members and learn a lot from shared experiences.

Our club is based on volunteers. You can remain a Member at Large or jump in and help out in whatever capacity you feel comfortable doing at our Monthly meetings, Annual Events, Show/Exhibits, Digs, and Social events (December Party dinner).

Consider serving as a Board Member. Bring your time and talents, and we will find you a good fit. There are perks to being a board member! Good volunteers keep our club invested, interesting and open minded—we are a fun group!

Events needing volunteers:

Monthly meetings: Help with the monthly raffle, consider doing a demo, or talk about a problem tree, or how you fixed a problem tree…

Annual Display: Usually late August

WAG (Winnipeg Art Gallery) Exhibit: Semi-annually in June or July

Spring and Fall Digs: Dates determined by weather conditions. Usually May and October.

Workshops: Setting up, Cleaning

Introduction to Growing Bonsai Course: Mentoring, Setting up, Cleaning

December Party Dinner: Mid-December, location often at Ye’s Buffet.

Role for Volunteers:

As a volunteer, you are the face of our club to the public. At events such as our annual display, you would chat with people, and answer questions about bonsai or suiseki. You could also help with set-up and take-down at any of our events.

Experienced members or the Volunteer Co-ordinator will “train you,” show you what is to be done, and give you speaking points, or hi-lites. If you are asked a question you can’t comfortably answer, find a member who can. No pressure to know everything! None of us do.
