GROUP PURCHASES

One of the greatest benefits of being in the Winnipeg Bonsai Society is getting in on club orders. By ordering in bulk and through our well-known club, we benefit from better pricing than is available to the public. We share shipping, handling, and brokerage costs and have access to items and specimens that you may not find on your own.

The Bonsai Society assembles several group orders during the year. These are advertised at regular meetings, and by e-mail. These are generally timed to receive the material at the appropriate time. The cost per individual may be significantly reduced, and most of the arrangements are handled by the organizer. When we combine our purchasing power, we also qualify for discounts.

Typical examples might be:

  • Tool orders several times through the year
  • Bonsai tree orders occur when we locate good trees at reasonable prices
  • Full rolls of wire from 150 grams, 500 grams to 1 kilograms. Copper wire is available too.
  • Pots may be ordered occasionally depending on availability from suppliers
  • Special projects where starter-tree material can be ordered in bulk quantities

POTS

For the last couple of years, the club has purchased world-renowned pots from Tokoname, Japan. There is a bit of a learning curve to figuring out their catalogue, so download the BCI Magazine article about how these pots are packed and shipped worldwide. It gives a good description of how to decipher their catalogue.

Read the article and look through the catalogue before ordering.

Orders are for Spring delivery. If we order early, we can choose the most economical shipping option.

Take an inventory of your trees before you put them away for winter, and measure bowls, pots, and pans in your kitchen to get a good idea of the size you wish to order. You can also mock up a pot with cardboard or newspaper and avoid the surprise of a pot being too large or too small.

Some pots will not be available, but we don't know which, until we order them. Include a backup choice if you can.

TOOLS

We get great pricing on Joshua Roth Tools (including the Ryuga brand). The Intermediate Joshua Roth made-in-Japan tool range is recommended for the best value.

Ryuga is a Japanese design made in China and represents an outstanding value for beginners.

Contact us with what you want to order, and we'll provide pricing that includes shipping and duties, brokerage, and taxes.

State the quantity, name, and SKU number. Example: 1 x Concave Cutter Spherical RC-12.

The Joshua Roth and Ryuga products can be seen HERE. Check them out before ordering.

A primer on bonsai tools is HERE.

You will be required to pay for your order once the product is in hand and you pick it up.
