2026 Workshop with Denis Girardin:
Denis Girardin, our resident forest expert will guide us through the process in two one-day lecture/workshops on a weekend in late May of 2026.
Denis collected the larch from a bog and all have the rugged bark associated with old larch.
The workshop includes:
• Five larch in pre-selected groups that provide a range of trunk girth and height.
• A shallow fibreglass tray with cedar feet approximately 17 in. wide by 15 in. deep.
• Potting media
• Aluminum wire
Registration is open to all members, and we have room for 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
A small non-refundable deposit will hold your spot when registration opens.
If spaces fill quickly, don’t worry—we’ll keep a waiting list in case any openings become available.
Stay tuned for final details, exact dates and location.
about this WORKSHOP
2026 Larch Forest Workshop:
The five-tree group style.
A grove shaped by wind, slope, or light.
Bonsai Winnipeg is pleased to announce a workshop where members can create their own larch (tamarack) forest.
A five-tree group is ideal for a near-view forest, giving the impression that you are within or just at the edge of the forest — close enough to sense the detail of individual trees, the texture of bark, and the density of trunks. The grouping feels like a small grove or copse, not an entire landscape. The limited number of trees makes it possible to give each one individual character while still achieving a cohesive group feeling.
